Every point below is grounded in chabad.org’s own descriptions of what a Chabad House offers.
Open door for every Jew — no membership needed
Chabad.org states plainly: “Most often a Chabad House does not charge membership — if you are Jewish, you are a member.” Chabad’s philosophy is to welcome every Jew unconditionally, regardless of observance level, background, or affiliation. You can simply walk in or call — no dues, no application.
Community support and personal help
Chabad-Lubavitch runs more than 3,500 institutions with thousands of full-time emissary families — about 2,500 families in the United States alone — dedicated to serving every Jew. Chabad.org describes a model in which no person or detail is too small for their attention, from a Shabbat invitation to help in a crisis. Your local center is the front door to all of it.
Shabbat and holiday meals and services
Chabad.org lists the core offerings of a Chabad House as “classes, lectures, and workshops on Jewish topics; religious services; Shabbat meals; and special events.” Centers host Shabbat dinners and High Holiday, Passover, Chanukah, and Purim programs open to the whole community. The Chabad Locator can point you to holiday celebrations near you.
Kosher food resources
Chabad.org’s locator helps you find kosher meals near you, and its Kosher section includes guides to kosher basics, shopping, and restaurants. Through Colel Chabad, the movement’s social-services arm, Chabad operates soup kitchens feeding about 3,000 people daily, delivers roughly 1,500 Meals on Wheels a day, and runs food banks serving about 5,000 families monthly. A local center can connect you with kosher food help in your area.

Counseling, chaplaincy, and crisis referrals
Chabad.org notes that Chabad Houses offer counseling services, and the movement’s chaplaincy reach includes the Aleph Institute serving nearly 4,000 incarcerated men and women plus 25,000 of their family members, military chaplaincy reaching over 100 Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine bases, and hospital-visitation programs (a searchable filter in the locator). The Friendship Circle serves children and adults with disabilities and mental-health conditions in 81 cities. Your local rabbi can make referrals for pastoral or practical support.
Children’s programs and Hebrew school
Chabad operates more than 1,000 schools, preschools and other educational institutions, and many local centers run Hebrew schools, day camps, and bar/bat mitzvah preparation. The Chabad Locator has a filter specifically for centers that offer a Hebrew school. Chabad.org itself serves as “the virtual classroom for thousands of Hebrew School children.”
Help for travelers
Chabad centers are famous as a home away from home for Jewish travelers: chabad.org’s directory exists so that wherever you go, you can find kosher meals, prayers, and holiday celebrations at a welcoming Chabad House. Centers in visitor destinations offer services, Shabbat hospitality, and local kosher guidance. Chabad.org also publishes “The Traveler’s Companion,” a handbook for the Jewish traveler.
